Lawrence is an intellectual property (IP) and commercial lawyer focusing on IP Protection, IP Commercialisation, Corporate and Commercial, Technology, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Law.

 

He provides strategic advisory and end-to-end legal services in intellectual property, corporate incorporation, commercial agreements, data compliance, technology transactions, and AI-related legal frameworks, including AI governance, data protection, and intellectual property in AI innovations.

Since starting his career in the IP field in 2007, Lawrence has advised a wide range of clients, from startups and SMEs to public-listed companies and research institutions, on building, protecting, and commercialising their IP assets. Before founding IP Gennesis, an award-winning IP advisory firm, and later LAWENCO, he practised with one of Kuala Lumpur’s leading IP firms, where he specialised in both contentious and non-contentious IP matters.

He has represented clients before the High Court of Malaya and Court of Appeal in trademark and patent infringement cases, invalidation proceedings, and trade description actions. He has also conducted enforcement raids against counterfeit goods, reinstated lapsed IP registrations, and negotiated complex dispute settlements.

Beyond dispute resolution, Lawrence works closely with innovators and businesses to align their IP, technology, and AI strategies with commercial growth objectives. He is also an active speaker at universities, government research institutions, multinational corporations and business communities, promoting IP awareness, technology commercialisation, and AI legal readiness across industries.
